Football moneyline — rules

This is a fantasy-bankroll moneyline league. The commissioner (Brian) scores the weeks and then will pay out from the pot at year end (after the Super Bowl). This season's pot is $8,000. See weekly and year-end prizes.

The two different $100s

  • Entry fee: $100 real money per league entry. Venmo @brianrexing or PayPal brian.rexing@gmail.com.
  • Prior-season leftover: leftover prize money is a credit toward next year’s $100 entry if that person plays again. It is not fantasy bankroll and does not change Week 1 chips. Example: $90 credit → they owe $10 real to enter.
  • Fantasy bankroll: virtual league dollars used only for betting and standings. Same number as the entry fee by coincidence — not the same money.

This season: 80 entries, $8,000 real pot.

People vs entries

  • One email (one person) may have more than one league entry. Two is allowed.
  • Each entry has its own contestant name and its own fantasy bankroll.
  • Standings, bets, and payouts are per entry / contestant name, not per email.

Season

  • NFL Week 1 through Super Bowl — 22 weeks.
  • Each week the commissioner publishes a slate (usually 3 college + 3 pro), focused on bigger TV games, with current Vegas moneylines.
  • New entries can start any week. They still owe the $100 real entry, and they start with a fantasy bankroll of $100.

Bankroll and betting

  • Week 1 starting balance: $100 fantasy for every entry. No extra carry-in.
  • Each week (including Week 1’s stipend as that start, then every later week): $100 fantasy is added to the entry’s balance. Even if an entry busts, they still receive $100 that week and can always bet at least $100.
  • Each week the entry must bet at least $100. They may bet more if the current fantasy balance allows (prior winnings still in the bankroll, plus that week’s $100).
  • They may put all of a week’s action on one game, or spread across multiple games on the slate.
  • Bets are moneyline only (which team wins), sized in fantasy dollars, settled at that week’s posted line.
  • Push: no action — stake is returned (balance unchanged for that bet). A cancelled or postponed game is a push. The contestant cannot move that stake onto another game.
  • Rounding: all fantasy money (stakes, profit, payback, bankroll, weekly profit, cumulative earnings) is rounded to the nearest whole cent. No leftover fraction of a cent.

American-odds math: plus odds +X on stake S profit is S × (X / 100). Minus odds −Y on stake S profit is S × (100 / Y). Payback is stake + profit, then round to the nearest cent. The sample table uses whole dollars for a $100 bet as a handout; live scoring is cents.

Submitting bets

  • Submit on this site under Betting card. A confirmation email goes to the address you enter.
  • Due before kickoff of the first game on that week’s slate.
  • Replace until lock: submit as often as you want before that first kickoff. Each new submit replaces the previous card for that contestant for that week. After lock, members cannot change a card.
  • Lock: that first kickoff locks the entire week. No new bets, no extra entries after that — including on later games that have not started yet.
  • Commissioner: can fix obvious errors after lock (wrong line, typo on a card, void or push a game).
  • Missed deadline: that entry is given a $100 wager on the home team of the final game on the slate.
  • Late join in a later week: $100 as if the entry had busted (scoring detail comes when standings are on the site).

Payouts (real pot)

Roughly one third of the pot is weekly prizes (ranked on weekly profit). Roughly two thirds is year-end prizes (ranked on cumulative earnings / bankroll). This season that is $2,662 in weeklies ($121 each of 22 weeks) and $5,338 at year end. The commissioner tracks those amounts through the season and pays the whole pot at year end, after the Super Bowl.

Prize amounts are the same every week.

Payout ties (weekly and year-end)

Tied contestants occupy consecutive places (T4 means they take 4th, 5th, 6th, …). They split the sum of the prizes for those places. Places with no prize count as $0. Each share is rounded to the nearest cent. Year-end ties use the same split as weekly ties.

Example: three contestants T4 occupy 4th, 5th, and 6th. Prizes in that span: $16 + $10 + $5 = $31. Each of the three gets $31 / 3 → $10.33. Same idea for any tie that overlaps paid places (e.g. two contestants T1 split $36 + $30). The next distinct profit starts at the next place after the block they occupied.
